Yolanda Newhouse is the Fall 2020 intern working for North Carolina Literary Map. Having earned both her BA and MA in English Literature, she is excited to participate in a project that highlights North Carolina’s many literary offerings.
Yolanda is a graduate student halfway through UNCG’s Master of Library and Information Studies program. Utilizing various social media platforms, she tells the stories of NC Literary Map, independent bookstores and local authors, as well as anything else bookish she has a hunch followers will enjoy. Throughout her internship she has learned how to utilize apps such as Hootsuite and Canva to increase audience engagement on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, as well as traffic to the NC Literary Map website. She has also learned how to measure her success and tailor her content through studying insights and analytics.
She has previously worked as a Composition/Rhetoric instructor, a writing tutor, the Fiction Director of an independent bookstore, and a library assistant in the children’s department of a public library. These varied experiences have led Yolanda towards academic librarianship. Currently, she is a stay-at-home mom to a sweet and energetic one-year-old and a full-time student.
